A folder cannot be created or copied to a USB drive connected to a WD My Cloud or WD My Cloud EX4 when accessed via AFP Answer ID 11112 | Last Updated 12/12/2013 <-- --> Affected Products: WD My Cloud WD My Cloud EX4

Problem: A folder cannot be created or copied to a USB drive that is connected to a WD My Cloud or WD My Cloud EX4 if the drive is accessed using Apple File Protocol (AFP).

Cause: This occurs if the USB drive is formatted as a FAT32 drive, and if connection to the Personal Cloud is set through AFP. Since the network connection is AFP, Apple assumes that all OSX file and folder attributes are supported. However, FAT does not support these attributes.

Solution: Connect to the Personal Cloud drive using Samba (SMB) instead of AFP. To do this, please follow the instructions below:

On the top toolbar, click on Go and select Connect to Server.

On the Server Address area, entersmb://drivename.local orsmb://ipaddress, and click onConnect.
