Group Summary

Communications staff contribute to advocacy efforts, raise awareness of the issues the foundation addresses, work to protect and advance the foundation’s reputation, and oversee all internal and external communications functions.

Responsibilities Through its research grants, the foundation has access to sizable data within the program focus areas, and tremendous opportunity exists to connect with grantees and end beneficiaries via emerging technology platforms. We are seeking an individual for a two-year limited-term engagement who will be responsible for an analytics-based strategy detailing how the foundation should engage in large-scale data projects, as well as initial investments in reach audiences via mobile platforms.

Working closely with the senior communications officer, the digital measurement and analysis communications officer will be responsible for assigning research as part of brand and insights generation. The role will work closely with the deputy director of strategic planning and operations and will have a global scope and require a high level of cross-team collaboration. Along with individual project ownership, this role will help the measurement team develop a shared framework for how to quantify communications impact across the various work streams.

Sample responsibility areas could include: - Lead communication visualization projects involving geolocated, crowdsourced content from our grantee community for our website. - Manage data sets to prepare analysis of large social media data sets. - Collect and conduct analysis of digital and social media data using Python and Visual Basic. - Develop a communication data visualization methodology for communication data. - Visualize digital and social media monitoring records for key performance indicators (KRI), while producing detailed statistical analysis of large data sets. - Support the production of data visualization populated by large data sets of historical case incidents, depicting correlations between related events and entities while graphically illustrating comparative trends utilizing timelines and other charts. - Combine various data sources from digital and traditional media tracking services. - Use statistical methodologies to produce credible and visible appealing data representation. - Vendor management of select data providers, as well as software platform and hardware providers. - Gathering research, potential partners, and supporting data for an SMS-based poll in targeted areas (e.g., France, Brazil, Nigeria). - Working with vendors on creative data-driven projects in close collaboration with program counterparts, supervising budget, scope, and schedules. - Facilitating conversations with outside analysts working in new media and preparing briefings on long-term foundation investments in emerging technologies.

Finally, the person in this role will help the foundation’s digital lead by developing metrics to measure the impact of these activities, sharing insights on outputs, outcomes, and outgrowths with internal and external partners.

Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data visualization, information design or similar with four plus years of experience. - Ability to pull together data and provide preliminary analysis using Python and Visual Basic. - Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and excellent spreadsheet skills. - Good understanding of the foundation’s priority strategies and policy environments surrounding those issues. - The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with demonstrated knowledge and experience in measurement and analytics. - Experienced in addressing the needs and interests of multiple stakeholders; active listening required. - Understanding of global media landscape and key players. - Understanding of audience segmentation and getting to desired perceptual/behavioral change. - Understanding of traditional and new media outlets and influence/reach. - Strong writing skills in translating complex data into actionable insights. - Strong project management. - Authoritative, self-confident and credible. - Ability to assimilate complex information and deal with effectively and sensitively. - Ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively.

This is a two year limited term position based in Seattle, Washington.
